Let's make something!

We’ve been extremely fortunate to have our current space for as long as we have on the basis that we’ve had it.
Our stay in the space has been precarious for a while, and now unfortunately we have been asked to vacate the premises by the end of October.
As the development of Tesco in the building below nears completion, the landlords have turned their focus to the upper level where we are currently situated, and are looking to make the space available for new high yield tenants, able to pay rent far beyond our means, even if we did reach critical mass.
This shouldn’t come as a surprise to many due to our loose agreement we had with the landlord. However, this isn’t the end end, we’ve got an exciting time ahead to explore new opportunities. This is only the start.
As one door closes, another one opens….
The question is: Where next? It’s not an easy question to answer.
We need everyone to pitch in so we can find a new space. There’s a number of options, but no sure thing.
A space contingency planning meeting will be held on Monday 5th Oct 2015 at 7:30PM, at the hackspace. This is short notice, which means we can take action sooner rather than later.
Our hackspace is run by the members for the members, so we hope that as many of you can attend as possible – it’s important that we work together on what’s next for our organisation.
There will be FREE Pizza and Beer.

After months in the planning, Saturday 1st August 2015, we were hosts to the first ever UK Inter HackSpace Robot Wars.
It’s been a pretty gruelling few months as not only did we organise the event though, we hosted it at our Hackspace venue, put on food and even built our own Robot to participate in the battles.
We had teams travel far and wide from rLab, Reading; Make:Bromyard, Herefordshire; Hitchin Hackspace, Hertfordshire and FizzPop, Birmingham.
It was touch and go whether some teams would enter, whether others would finish their bot, it was touch and go as to whether we would even finish our bot in time!

Hitachi Power Tools UK have very kindly donated not one, but two drills to our cause!
— James Wade (@jpswade) June 13, 2015
We’re absolutely blown away by this generosity. It’s this kind of support that makes a real difference to our efforts.
If you’re a space like us, then you too can benefit from Hitachi Power Tools generosity by heading over to their donation request, where you’ll find more information about their efforts. As they put it:
At Hitachi Power Tools, we have a long-standing commitment to supporting the communities we serve. This support takes the form of product donation. Our select areas of focus are health and human services, community development and education.
If you’re able to donate any tools or equipment, or know anyone who might, then please get in touch with us as we’d love to hear from you too!
All the best.

It’s been a while since Robot Wars have graced our screens (Final episode date: March 28, 2004) but the fascination has never died and Hackspaces across the country are proving that.
After some discussion with the UK hackspace community, we’re proud to announce that we’ll be holding the UK’s first ever ‘Inter HackSpace Robot Wars’.
